Anna Kingsley was born Anta Madjiguene Ndiaye as a princess of the Wolof Kingdom and was stolen at the age of 13 and sold in Cuba to Zephaniah Kingsley who married her, gave her manumission and then settled with her in the Republic of Florida.
She defended her land and people against US rebels trying to invade Florida and was awarded a land grant of 350 acres, surpassing the 5 acres she received when she first arrived in Florida. After the United States took control of Florida, she moved her multiracial family to Haiti where she continued to buy and release enslaved people. After the death of her white husband, she moved back to the United States where she successfully sued to acquire back most of her property.
Siren – Protectors of the Rainforest is creating a dance drama of her life and is seeking actors, singers, musicians. The tale is choreographed by Lamine Thiam and the music composer is Gino Sitson and produced by Mafor Mambo Tse
